The Association in Defence of the Wrongly Convicted is a primarily volunteer-based, non-profit, organization, which seeks to end systemic causes of wrongful convictions and actively participate in the review and reversal of wrongful convictions when warranted. After a thorough review of the facts surrounding Jeff Boppre's conviction, AIDWYC endorsed his case and commenced its efforts to reverse Jeff's wrongful conviction.

Innocence Project

The Innocence Project is a non-profit organization, which seeks to overturn wrongful conviction and exonerate the wrongly convicted through DNA testing. In 2004, the Innocence Project began its examination of DNA evidence preserved by the State of Nebraska in Jeff's case. Their findings formed the basis for Jeff's appeal to the District Court.

Nebraska lawyer, Lawrence Whelan, has been representing Jeff Boppre for a number of years, but was not his trial lawyer. While Mr. Whelan continues to prepare for an appeal to Nebraska's Supreme Court, he has been promised the assistance of AIDWYC and the innocence Project.
